My boys teach me patience to the maximum level. They teach me the joys of a simple life – to be in content and to master the habit of selfless love. One afternoon the kuya taught me to be still and get soaked under the high noon sun. I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea, (and it felt a bit weird) but it seemed he knew what he was doing. And so I let him be. For twenty minutes or so, we were silent as he fell in a trance-like state. I asked him what he was doing. He said “I’m just closing my eyes, Mama…” I asked him what he was thinking. He said with a smile, “Oh, nothing.” When he was done, he opened his eyes and marveled at a tree. He said it looked sooo nice. I wonder what he sees, if he could actually see beyond the physical reality that us adults are tied to. I wish the purity of his heart remains bright as he grows old in years… 

I found this leaf lying on our stairs one friday afternoon. It instantly caught my attention because it possessed a tiny but very clear white pattern which was intricately imprinted at the back. I didn’t know what it was, but strangely I felt it was for me. So I kept it. It really is more breathtaking to look at it in real life.

Patterns are a mystery. Organized chaos. Universal truth.

The chaos, all the lovely beings gather to shop. Nothing’s really calling my attention. They kind of look the same and they come in – like what? – 2o pieces to a design? I didn’t want that. But! They have interesting pieces really. Of course it would be a different story if I had a fat wallet with me right? So. I got myself a set of hair clips and… my 7th favorite pair of sunnies! Whoooooo I so love the groovy design!

What I wore that night was nothing Forever 21. I could’ve worn my new F21 ankle boots if I want to please them hehe.. But I want to go as free and ‘flat’ and as comfortably as I can. That’s the basic rule in shopping anyway! So I wore my robe dress – handpicked and altered by me, necklace keys and flipflops by Accessorize, bangles - gifts from friends, scarf by SM Dept Store, leather bag from Argentina. ^_^ Happy to be forever and free!

Speaking for myself, winning just simply makes you feel EXTRA good. I already felt good when the shooting was done and felt even better when I saw it on the big screen in Manila – to actually be there with the whole team and watch the characters come “popping out” with their lines and costumes. It was… *insert happy, dreamy face* like that. Making a movie is a collective effort and my part as a Costume Designer made a great deal of that feeling. I am grateful to have contributed to the whole look of My Paranormal Romance.

Congratulations to our Production Designer Kaloy Uypuanco, also the voice behind the Bra. Yes, bra as in bra. To RJ Aquino and the rest of the post-prod team for winning Best Editing whooot! And to our director Victor Villanueva and to the rest of the MPR team for getting that Special Citation Award. To the cast who were amazing at every beat of their screening time, to the crew who were effortlessly enjoying every shooting and vfx-ing days and nights — BEST performance ever, you are all winners yeah!!!

My overnight-in-Manila experience was a blast. I was proud to have convinced a friend to fly with me, wore a ‘paranormal’ outfit on Awards Night, bought the coolest F21 boots that fit pefectly, and most importantly made new friends. It also opened more exciting prjocts ahead. I know the Universe always provide with ways and means, doors and windows. And it’s always up to us to accept or decline or become a winner everytime.
